Mark Watson has been wood carving for over 12 years. All Aspen Wood for his carvings is harvested by him.
His collectible walking canes are hand carved from Aspen Trees which come from above 10,000 ft elevation in the Rocky Mountains. Some have natural handles which is the actual root of the tree. Natural handles are very hard to find.
Most canes have handles added with the wood for the handle being Aspen, Juniper, Cedar or Basswood.
When the trees are harvested, the bark is peeled off and the sticks are dried in the sun for at least one week. more....
Mr Watson draws the design on the cane first and then begins the carving process. All canes are carved by hand using knives and gouges. Some time a power tool is necessary. No two canes are ever alike and are collector pieces but very functional. They are suprisingly light weight but almost indestructible. The design and carving takes usually at least 20 hours.
After they are finished, they are then painted or stained. Then they are sealed with 3-4 coats of clear wood sealer.
Average height of a Mark Watson Walking Cane is 37 inches. Height can be adjusted if needed per your request.
